NewsNigeriaPoliticsGov. Peter Mbah, Others Join APC, Says PDP No Longer A Viable Vehicle

The unprecedented, dramatic move of the majority of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State on Tuesday was a clear application of the military strategy, ‘ Capture the leader to get the whole army.’

Enugu State formerly known as a strong force for PDP now sings a new song as the Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, led all members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, the Executive Council, all 17 Local Government Chairmen, Councilors, political appointees, and over 80% of the PDP executives in Enugu into All Progressive Congress, APC.

Dr. Mbah states the reason for this move, “The PDP no longer represented a viable vehicle for our aspirations. To secure our future, we must align with a platform that values and reinforces our vision. That is why we have joined the APC – not alone, but as a collective.”

Acknowledging the PDP for providing the platform which brought them into power in 2023, Mbah lay bare his grievance against the party which had a strong hold in the state;

“For nearly three decades, our state and indeed the South East gave the PDP unwavering loyalty, carrying the party on our shoulders with commitment and sacrifice. Yet, when critical national decisions were taken, our voices were too often ignored.”

“Leadership sometimes demands painful but necessary choices. Today, I have made one such choice in the interest of Ndi Enugu and our future. This is not about resentment. It is not about personal ambition. It is about fairness, respect, and partnership.”

“Our people deserve to be heard at the centre of power. The PDP no longer represented a viable vehicle for our aspirations. To secure our future, we must align with a platform that values and reinforces our vision. That is why we have joined the APC – not alone, but as a collective.”

The Enugu State Governor, speaking on behalf of the new APC members in the state, further revealed the reason why they chose the ruling party.

“Why APC? Because I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not just a national leader but a partner in courage and vision.”

“Like us in Enugu, he has chosen bold reforms – removing subsidies, unifying exchange rates, confronting inefficiency, hard choices that free resources for the people.”

“Together, we believe transformation must not stop at highways or balance sheets; it must reach every ward, every farmer, every trader, every entrepreneur.”

“What changes is that our voice is now stronger, our hand firmer, our future brighter. This is not a detour. It is a conscious step towards fairness, partnership, and accelerated growth. I ask for your understanding, your trust, and your continued support as we walk this new path together.”

In his speech, the Chairman of the APC Enugu Caretaker Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, applauded the transition of key politicians in the state to the APC. He said the move is for the overall good of the state.

“This decision opens the door to unprecedented development, strengthens our collective political muscle in the South-East, and gives the Governor the platform to deliver even more for Ndi Enugu- one united movement, one shared vision, one unstoppable march forward.
