Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has formally applied to withdraw from representing him in the ongoing terrorisms-related trial.

Agabi made the application before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, stating that his legal team was “stepping down after Kanu decided to take back control of his case.”

Following his lead, all other Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Kanu’s defence team also withdrew their appearances.

When asked to confirm, Kanu told the court he would be representing himself “for now.”

However, he added that the arrangement might change in the future.

When the presiding judge offered to assign him fresh counsel, he declined.
