NewsNigeriaPoliticsINEC Says Eight Associations Scale Hurdles to Complete Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that eight of the 14 pre-qualified associations seeking registration as political parties have completed the upload of all required information and documentation.

The eight associations that advanced are the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).

Last month, the commission announced that only 14 of the 171associations that appliedmet the initial requirements to move to the next stage, while 157 failed to qualify.

In a statement on Thursday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, explained that the process aims to ensure full compliance with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the commission’s guidelines for political parties issued in 2022.

He said the next phase involves “a detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each association.”

“As of Saturday, 19th October 2025, eight out of the fourteen pre-qualified associations completed the upload of all necessary information and documentation.”

“INEC remains committed to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture,” Olumekun stated.

The development comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
