The Federal Government has announced plans to attempt a Guinness World Records title for the longest dining table during the forthcoming Mega Renewed Hope NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival scheduled for 6 December 2025 in Abuja.
The event was unveiled at a joint press conference by the Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Aare (Dr) Abisoye Fagade and the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa.
Dr Fagade said the centre-piece for the festival will be a dining table stretching 3.6 kilometres, expected to host between 2,000 and 3,000 participants.
He said, “We plan to break the record in the morning of December 6 and use the same table for a dining event later in the day. There will be food, culture, music, and comedy in the evening. It will show that Abuja can also host major cultural events in December.”
The festival, themed Oriki: Taste of Culture, will highlight Nigeria’s diverse culinary heritage while promoting opportunities in the hospitality and creative sectors.
Minister Musawa described the gastronomy event as a platform for economic inclusion and youth development within the creative economy.
She said, “When we talk about economic growth and youth development, gastronomy plays a role just like film, music, and fashion. People eat every day, and Nigeria has made significant progress in showcasing its food globally.”
According to NIHOTOUR, the attempt is part of a broader mission to strengthen Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality value chain through skills development, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.
The festival will also feature exhibitions, culinary masterclasses, cultural performances, food tastings, and investment dialogues.
The current record stands at 3,189.93 metres, set in Cairo, Egypt, in 2019. Nigeria’s proposed 3.6 km table would exceed that mark, thereby positioning the country for global recognition in the gastronomy space.
The Mega Renewed Hope NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival and the record attempt will be formally launched by President Tinubu in Abuja.
