The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the State’s Local Government Service Commission Board.
The Governor in a statement released on Tuesday, explained that the decision followed the discovery of alleged abuse of office and mismanagement in the commission’s recent recruitment exercise.
His words: “My dear people of Cross River State, I want to let you know that I have dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission. This is because we discovered serious abuse of office and cheating in the recent job recruitment.”
Governor Otu, who described the irregularities as unjust and unacceptable, stated that such conduct undermines genuine governance and erodes public confidence in the government.
He assured the citizens that he would not tolerate any form of corruption within government or among public officials, noting that such practices hinder the state’s development.
Otu added that: “What happened was wrong and unfair. It betrayed the trust you placed in us.
“The recruitment exercise that was already stopped will remain suspended.
“We will start it again properly, clean, open, and based on merit, so that only qualified people get the jobs.
“We will continue to take strong steps to make our institutions honest and trustworthy.
“Together, we will build a better Cross River State where things are done the right way”.
