…Backs Him for Second Term
The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally passed a resolution requesting Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek re-election in 2027, declaring confidence in his leadership.
The resolution was adopted during a plenary session on Wednesday, following a motion moved by the House Leader, Major Jack, who represents the Akuku-Toru I constituency.
Jack described the motion as meant to commend President Tinubu for “steering the ship” of the country in the “right direction,” and urged colleagues to pray for his re-contest based on his “leadership and love for Rivers state.”
At least 15 members of the Assembly sponsored the motion, and all lawmakers who spoke during plenary voiced support.
Among them was Dumle Maol (Gokana constituency), who noted that Tinubu had appointed six persons from his constituency to federal positions — a development he said justified backing for the motion. He argued that the President “deserves a second term in office.”
Deputy House Leader Linda Somiari‑Stewart described the declaration as timely, adding that the vote of confidence is “not a mere ceremonial expression. It is a declaration that is solemn and weighty, and made when the nation demands stability, freedom, and leadership.”
Also speaking, Martins Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Assembly, said the lawmakers would not adopt a critical posture towards the Tinubu administration. Rather, he said, they would support the federal government.
He urged citizens to assist security agencies in fighting criminality, and prayed that the President be granted “good health, strength, and wisdom to pilot the affairs of this country.”
The motion was passed by voice vote.
This development comes months after the lifting of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
The emergency rule was declared by President Tinubu in March 2025, suspending the elected state governor, deputy governor, and the entire Rivers State Assembly, and replacing them with a sole administrator.
