The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced paying terminal and death benefits to 728 retirees and relatives of deceased civil servants from the N1.85 billion recently released for the purpose by the state government.
Dr Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, the Executive Secretary of the board, who disclosed this during a briefing at the Pension House in Dutse, said the disbursement covered gratuities, death benefits and death pension balances.
“607 retirees would receive N1,546,000,171.79, while 96 relatives of deceased staff would share N289,793,204.10, also N21,082,150.38 had been set aside for 25 retirees who died shortly after retirement,” he said.
Dr Shitu said the consistent performance of the scheme reflected the state government’s commitment to the welfare of workers, and the scheme remained the most effective and reliable in the country.
Many beneficiaries who expressed gratitude for the timely release of their entitlements, said it would help them meet financial obligations and ease their transition into retirement.
