The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to peace, Pan-African solidarity, and stronger diplomatic relations with the Republic of Haiti and the Republic of Sudan.
Nigerian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, stated this in a congratulatory message to Haiti on its 221st Independence Anniversary and Sudan on its 70th Independence.
Tuggar described Haiti’s independence as a defining moment in global history, noting that the country was the first Black republic to attain independence.
“Haiti’s legacy continues to inspire Africa and the African diaspora in their pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality”, he said.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with the Haitian people as they work towards peace, stability, and sustainable development.
He further expressed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Haiti through diplomatic engagement, cultural exchange, and cooperation within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations.
While congratulating Sudan on its 70th Anniversary of Independence, the Federal Government of Nigeria described the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the country’s sovereignty, cultural heritage, and aspirations for peace and prosperity.
The statement highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Sudan, founded on Pan-African solidarity and shared anti-colonial experiences, and noted that both countries believe in Africa’s capacity to shape its own future.
“Nigeria acknowledged Sudan’s contributions to Africa’s political, intellectual, and cultural development and commended the resilience of the Sudanese people amid ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian challenges,” the minister said.
