The BAT Ideological Group and the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, have formally entered into a strategic partnership to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies.
The agreement was sealed during a high-level strategic engagement held on Thursday, 15 January 2026 between leaders of the ideological group and the university’s management.
The institute is designed to promote ideological orientation, strengthen political leadership development, and enhance governance studies across Nigeria.
In a statement, the group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Arabinrin Aderonke, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to addressing the country’s leadership challenges through structured academic and professional training.
Aderonke noted that the agreement was reached following “a high-level strategic engagement between the leadership of the BAT Ideological Group and the management of LASUSTECH.”
The BAT Ideological Group delegation was led by its Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, and included the group’s Patron, Alhaji Tejumade Onirin; Oyo State Coordinator, Professor Fayomi Oluyemi; and Oyo State Woman Leader, Dr Bisi Alabi.
They were received at LASUSTECH by Vice-Chancellor Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, alongside principal officers, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Denloye; Registrar, Mr David Ogungbe; Bursar, Mr Oki Olashile; and Dean of Student Affairs, Owoeye David.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Atoyebi said the group formally presented a comprehensive proposal to establish a School of Politics and Policies within the university.
He explained that the new institute is envisioned to serve as a national hub for ideological training, political leadership formation, and governance studies.
He added that both parties resolved to begin academic and professional activities within the next two to three months, marking a swift transition from planning to implementation.
To facilitate an early start, LASUSTECH has agreed to provide a temporary facility for the institute’s immediate take-off, while a purpose-built permanent structure is planned to reflect the stature, vision and national significance of the project.
According to Atoyebi, the institute was conceived as a strategic response to the leadership deficit confronting Nigeria’s political system.
He said it will offer structured academic programmes at diploma, master’s and doctoral levels, as well as professional certification, fellowship opportunities and ideological grooming for both emerging and established political actors.
Describing the initiative as a “historic milestone”, Atoyebi highlighted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies will be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria to be named after a sitting President.
He affirmed that President Bola Tinubu embodies “not merely a political figure, but an institution of leadership, ideology and governance whose political philosophy warrants academic interrogation and institutional preservation.”
