NewsNigeriaPoliticsEnvironmental Cleanliness: Defaulters To Pay N300,000 Fine in Anambra

To keep the Anambra State capital clean, factories, companies, and business operators in Awka have been directed to maintain clean, safe environments around their premises.
The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) issued the directive, said defaulters will pay a fine of N300,000.
The ACTDA Environmental Officer, Jude Nworah, on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Authority Dr. Ossy Onuko, stated that operators are also required to provide waste bins and ensure proper refuse disposal as well as cut and clear grasses within and around their premises regularly.
According to Nworah, the enforcement team will commence routine inspections from February 15, 2026, and warned that defaulters will be sanctioned with a fine of N300,000 or legal prosecution.
He stated that several establishments had earlier been served notices to carry out clean-up and desilting of drainages, noting that the enforcement process will not be compromised.
“The inspection exercise will cover factories, companies, and other business premises across Awka to ensure compliance with environmental sanitation standards.
“The directive became necessary following the poor environmental condition previously observed in parts of the capital city, including blocked drainage systems and unclean gutters,” Nworah said.
