NewsNigeriaPoliticsOur Votes Must Count, We’ll Label Manipulators Democracy Destroyers – Obi

Mr. Peter Obi, Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has said that the votes must count in the 2027 general elections, saying that those who plan to manipulate the votes will be labelled destroyers of Nigeria democracy.

Obi stated this on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, urging Nigerians to remain at the polling units after voting to count and witness the counting and transmission of results.

He wrote, “Unlike in the past, in 2027 our votes must count, and all those who are not there to count the votes will be counted among those destroying Nigeria. I encourage everyone to remain at the polling units after voting to observe the counting and transmission of results.

“Those who refuse to allow the votes count will be made to count the full weight of the law against rigging. Let me reiterate: if you do not count our votes, we will count you among those who destroy our democracy, thereby destroying our future, and you must answer to the law.

Recall that the former Anambra State Governor, over the weekend, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He stated this while speaking at a political gathering in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he revealed that he chose to leave his former party, Labour Party to ADC because he was informed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would not recognise the leadership of the Labour Party, as long as he remained in the party.

He also reiterated that he will contest the upcoming election no matter where it is held. “And if they refuse to transmit election results, we will ensure the results are transmitted.”
