Frank Mba, a deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), along with seven other DIGs, has retired from the Nigeria Police Force following the recent restructuring of the force’s leadership.
The retirements come in the wake of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of Tunji Disu as the new inspector-general of police (IGP), succeeding Kayode Egbetokun. Prior to his elevation, Disu held the rank of assistant inspector-general of police (AIG), just below DIG.
In a statement released on Friday, the Police Service Commission announced that seven AIGs have been promoted to DIG after undergoing oral interviews and written examinations.
The newly promoted DIGs are: Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Torty Njoku Kalu, PSC spokesperson, added that Fayoade Adegoke, promoted to DIG in February 2026, will now join the force management team.
Frank Mba, an indigene of Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area, joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet inspector officer.
He graduated as the best cadet in academics at the Police Academy, Kano, and has held several key positions, including commissioner of police in Ogun State and head of the Border Patrol Force at force headquarters.
He also served as area commander in Ajah and Festac, Lagos, and was a two-term force spokesperson.
In June 2023, the PSC approved Mba’s appointment as DIG, replacing the retired John Amadi as the most senior officer from the south-east zone on the police management team. He had been promoted to DIG only three months after reaching the rank of AIG.
Academically, Mba studied law at the University of Lagos, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002, and later earned a master’s degree in law with distinction from the University of Dundee.
The recent promotions and retirements mark a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening leadership within the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Disu’s command.
