To curb the escalation of renewed clashes between Chobo and Bachama communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which resulted in deaths and loss of properties, the Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Local Government.
Lamurde has been a flashpoint for communal crisis over disagreements linked either to lingering farmland disputes or demands by the Chobo community for a separate traditional chieftaincy from the Bachama traditional council.
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a statement on Sunday evening through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, said the government would not allow disturbances caused by miscreants to threaten peace and harmony in the state.
The statement said: “Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect. This follows renewed violent attacks and breaches of peace in some communities within the area”.
The statement added that security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew strictly, which will remain in place until further notice.
