The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has revised the timetable for the 2026 Local Government Council election in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.

Presenting the new date for electoral activities in the state to newsmen, the ENSIEC Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, explained that the adjustment is a result of the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.

“The revised timetable aligns with the new law and other relevant statutes guiding elections in the state.”

The timetable for the 2026 council election in Enugu is now 26th September, while re-run polls, if any, are slated for 10th October; the submission of nomination forms closes on May 29, and on 19th of June, candidates’ particulars will be published.

Meanwhile, party primaries are to be held from 23rd January to 26th May, 2026.

“Campaigns will begin on 29th April and end on 25th September 2026; 24 hours before polls,” Ngwu explains.

The Commission Chairman further disclosed, “The final list of candidates will be released on 27th July, while submission of polling agents ends on 31st of August. Also, the official notice of poll comes on the 11th of September.”

Professor Ngwu confirmed, “Elections will be held on the 26th of September, with voting from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. using the open secret ballot system.”

“In case of inconclusive results, re-run elections will be conducted on the 10th of October 2026.”
