President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), removing two key ministers and naming replacements in a move the Presidency says is aimed at strengthening governance and economic delivery.

The decision, announced in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, sees Mr Wale Edun and Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa exit the cabinet.

Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who now assumes the role. Oyedele was until now Minister of State in the ministry.

In the housing sector, Mr Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, following the exit of Dangiwa. The outgoing minister has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State pending the confirmation of his successor.

The SGF’s memo directed that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.”

Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He added that the President acted within his constitutional powers, noting that the decision was in line with “Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).”

President Tinubu also commended the outgoing ministers for their service, thanking them for their contributions to national development and wishing them well in their future endeavours.

The SGF further conveyed the President’s message to the cabinet, assuring members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
