The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has confirmed a case of COVID-19 in Cross River State.
A press statement issued by the Director General of NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, confirms that the patient has been isolated, being managed in line with national treatment guidelines; the patient is in stable condition and responding to treatment.
“Following confirmation of the case, the Cross River State Ministry of Health, in coordination with NCDC and with support from partners, has activated response measures, including contact tracing, surveillance, and infection prevention and control.”
“All identified contacts are being followed up appropriately, and there is no evidence at this time of widespread transmission.”
“We continue to maintain surveillance for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. The detection of this case reflects that these systems remain functional and responsive.”
Assuring the general public of NCDC’s readiness to continue monitoring the situation closely and provide updates as necessary, the DG advised members of the public to always maintain good hand and respiratory hygiene, seek care if unwell, and follow updates from official public health authorities.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. In March 2020, the disease had spread worldwide, prompting the World Health Organization to declare it a global health emergency.
