The Enugu State Ministry of Health has sealed four private hospitals within Enugu metropolis for failure to obtain or renew their operational licence and other regulatory requirements.
A press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Chidiogo Ugodu, reveals that out of seven private health facilities the team paid unscheduled inspection visits to, four failed the standards and were sealed up; the hospitals visited were within the Enugu North Local Government Area.
The purpose of monitoring and supervising private health facilities across the state, according to the statement, is to ensure quality healthcare delivery and regulatory compliance.
The inspection team assessed the facilities’ operational status, documentation, licensing compliance, and adherence to required healthcare standards.
The renewed exercise initiated by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, was carried out by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu, and a team of senior directors from the Ministry.
“The monitoring exercise was aimed at ensuring that all private hospitals and healthcare providers operating in the state comply with statutory requirements.”
“These statutory requirements include: the renewal of operating licence and proper registration of facilities that are yet to be captured by the regulatory authorities.”
“The supervision exercise will be sustained across the state to ensure that only duly approved and compliant facilities provide healthcare services to the people.”
“All private health facility operators in the state are hereby urged to regularize their operations by renewing expired licences or registering their facilities where necessary.”
“The ongoing monitoring exercise is not only a regulatory measure but also a critical step towards strengthening the health system and safeguarding the lives of citizens.”
