The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave, with Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.

According to the Governor’s letter, the leave will commence on August 10 and end on 11 September 2026. Makinde is expected to resume official duties on 14 September 2026.

The approval followed the consideration of the governor’s letter during plenary, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which require a governor to notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on leave or being absent from office.

The letter was read by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.

After deliberations, the lawmakers unanimously approved the request and expressed confidence in Lawal’s ability to ensure the smooth running of government throughout the governor’s absence.
