…Asks Rainbow Coalition Members To Vote For Tinubu, Chinda
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, has told his Rainbow Coalition members not to vote for the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, in the 2027 presidential election, alleging that the former Rivers State Governor embezzled the state’s funds.
Wike, who stated this on Tuesday in Port Harcourt during the unveiling of Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, urged his members to vote for President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda and other National Assembly and House of Assembly candidates in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
He itemised the various funds which he alleged that the former Transport minister embezzled to include, 10 million US dollars earmarked for fumigation to check mosquitoes, 39 million US dollars for construction of specialist hospital, 68 billion Naira for construction of monorail, and the 308 million U.S. dollars realized from the sales of Rivers gas turbine.
He said, “Amaechi was paid 10 million US dollars for fumigation of the state to control mosquito bites. 10 million US dollars today is 14 billion Naira. Ask him, “oga Rotimi Amaechi, we’re still having mosquito bite”. If you allow him as vice president, will he fumigate Nigeria too? So, he has duped us10 million US dollars.
“Secondly, he said he was going to build the best specialist hospital in Nigeria. He brought down the teaching hospital that we had. We thought, bringing it down would expedite the building of the 1,000 bed hospital. We paid 39 million US dollars. If you convert it, today it’s 53 billion Naira. Ask Rotimi Amaechi, where is the foundation of the Taribo White Specialist Hospital?”
Speaking further, Wike noted that Amaechi promised to build a monorail after he travelled to Dubai, stressing that the state spent 68 billion Naira on that project and up till today, there’s no monorail.
“That’s a man that wants to be the vice president. We had a gas turbine. The former governor sold the Rivers gas turbine in December 2014 at the cost of 308 million U.S. dollars. 308 million U.S. dollars. Converted to Naira, it’s not less than 419 billion. In December 2014, the money was spent. It was in a Zenith bank account. I came on May 29, 2015. Six months later, what was left was 308,000 U.S. dollars. From 308 million U.S. dollars to 308,000 U.S. dollars. Ask him where the 308 million U.S. dollars that was realised?
“I set up a judicial panel of inquiry, and Amaechi was indicted. He ran to court, lost at the state High Court. He went to the Court of Appeal, lost. He went to the Supreme Court, he lost at the Supreme Court. He’s still indicted. Is that the kind of person that you want as vice president? Will you put your political destiny to political gamblers?”
While urging the people to support Tinubu, Chinda and others, he said, “So, today we’ve made a decision under the Rainbow Coalition that we’re all going to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It doesn’t matter which party you may belong to. It may be the Labour Party in Rivers. It may be APM in Rivers. It may be PDP in Rivers. It may be APC in Rivers. It may be AA in Rivers. It may be APGA in Rivers. We all have to mobilise all our people and give support, give all our votes to Ahmed Bola Tinubu. I would also urge that in the interest of the state to support the governorship candidate of the APC, Kingsley Chinda and all other candidates from the National Assembly and the State Assembly.” He added.
