People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party has disclosed that it is ready to accept the embattled Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki if he decides to join the fold.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed this as reported by The Nation.
The party spokesman stated that although Obaseki is yet to approach the PDP for membership, the party is willing to admit him.
However, he noted that the governor won’t be given an automatic ticket.
“Joining a party is different from contesting the election. These are two separate things.
“People join political parties from their wards. We are in touch with our Edo State chapter and they have not told us that the governor had joined our party,” Ologbondiyan said.
Three aspirants seeking the PDP ticket for the Edo election had already been screened, signifying the close of nominations.
The embattled governor, Obaseki, was disqualified from seeking re-election on the platform of the APC by the party’s screening committee on Friday.
The Governor has said that he would not contest the decision stating that the decision was a show of shame.
