The member representing Nkanu East constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday presented a petition from Mbuluowo Concerned Citizens from Mbuluowo Njodo autonomous community in Nkanu East against their traditional ruler, Igwe Godwin Okeke Arum.
The petition titled Save Our Soul, SOS, was presented in the Hallowed Chambers by Paul Nnajiofor of Nkanu East Constituency.
Allegations leveled against the traditional ruler, Igwe Okeke Arum includes selling off the community lands, incessant dehumanization of her citizens, seizure, and conversion of people’s and community resources, and highhanded behavior amongst others.
“We therefore call on the Speaker to use his good office and the House of Assembly as an institution to necessitate actions to avert the looming crisis which will only lead to breakdown of law and order in the community, set up a panel of inquiry and call the Igwe to order,” excerpt from the SOS letter.
The Speaker, Edward Ubosi in his response to the SOS letter immediately referred the case to the House Committee on Local Government and ENSIEC matters; the committee chairman is Iloabuchi Aniagu.
“Invite Igwe Godwin Okeke Arum over and report your findings to the House within 3 weeks,” Ubosi directed.
