Academic activities commenced Monday in Public and private schools across Adamawa state after over six month of shutdown due to by COVID-19 pandemic.

Some primary and secondary schools visited in Yola, the state capital shows that most schools were seen complied with COVID-19 protocols in their premises with the provision of sanitizers, hand washing basins and at strategic points and forehead thermometer for screening of temperatures.

At Aliyu Musdafa College, Yola teachers were seen attending to students with observance of social distancing in classrooms.

It was observed that students who did not turn up with face masks were being asked to return home, while hand-washing buckets were available at strategic points.

The Principal of the College, Mallam Ibrahim Hamman Adama Tukur who spoke on the Development, said the measure was to ensure total compliance with COVID-19 guidelines as provided by the state Government for schools.

“Each class has a water bucket at the point of entry as other Covid-19 preventive kits had been provided by the Government to protect students and staff.

“One of the measures adopted by the school is segmenting classes into two with senior secondary students one to have their lessons in the morning while Senior secondary school students three are to turn up in the afternoon to ensure social distancing”. He said

At the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority Staff School Yola,     the Principal of Mrs Damaris Zubairu says none of the students of the school who were tested using the forehead thermometer provided by the school as of Monday had shown high temperatures.

“Hand sanitizers had been provided for each class for use by students and staff, students were subjected to tests before being allowed into the school premises.

“A temporary isolation centre has been provided for brief management of students with high or alarming temperature before being handed over to the state COVID-19 Containment Committee for necessary action”. Zubairu added

She directed teachers of the school to review the previous term’s lessons with students and appealed to parents to provide relevant textbooks for their wards to enable them to make up considering the long break as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

While praying to God for an end to the coronavirus pandemic, the principal expressed satisfaction with the turn up of students after the emergency break and challenged them to be committed to their studies.

At the Government Day Secondary School Wuro-Hausa Yola town, Senior Section, the Principal Mallam Saidu Bobbo said the school has provided hand sanitizers, hand washing basins and forehead thermometer for screening of temperatures.

He called on parents to cooperate with the school authority as regards compliance with preventive measures against COVID-19.

“Parents to support and encourage their wards to go to school, more so as the state government has paid registration fees for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate and National Examination Council, NECO for exiting students in public schools”. Bobbo added

At Musdafa Primary School, Yola and the School for Arabic and Islamic Studies Yola town COVID-19 guidelines were being observed with partial resumption by students/pupils.

Some students/pupils interviewed expressed delight at the resumption of school and promised to double their efforts to make up for lost time due to the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown.
