To fight childhood killer diseases in Adamawa State, the Second Dose Measles Vaccination Campaign has been launched in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri made this known Monday while commissioning Luggere Primary Healthcare Clinic Jimeta built by the state government in collaboration with nongovernmental organization Saving One Million Lives Initiative.
The introduction of the second dose measles vaccination into the immunization schedules is part of a renewed effort to reduce morbidity and mortality due to measles in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large. Forty interventions ranging from construction and renovations were carried out in Primary and Secondary Health facilities across the State.
A total of 22 of such projects were executed by this Administration, while six are on-going, but at advanced stages of completion.
“Luggere ward is the only political ward out of the 226 in Adamawa State that lacked a Primary Health Care facility which necessitated the immediate construction of the clinic”. He said.
Fintiri expressed the hope that the clinic will improve access to quality Health Care services to the teeming population in the area. Fintiri commended the efforts of health care organizations that provided technical and logistic support to the process.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Health, Prof Abdullahi Isa said the edifice will help in fighting the contagious diseases in Adamawa.
Also speaking, the District Head of Jimeta, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Baba Paris appealed to parents and caregivers to key into the public health strategy aimed at improving child survival and ultimately human capital development in Jimeta.
