As a move to improve the living standards of displaced persons in various camps in Adamawa, Head of the United Nations Coordination office on humanitarian affairs in Nigeria, Mr. Trond Jenseh was in Adamawa and took time to interact with Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
At the Saint Theresa Catholic Cathedral Jimeta IDP camp Jimeta, Mr. Jenseh saluted Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza of Yola Catholic Diocese for the steps taken in catering for and resettling the IDPs.
The visit aimed to interact with the displaced persons in various camps to determine areas of intervention for them.
“I hope that peace will be restored to enable the displaced persons to return to their various communities”. He said.
In a remark, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza who expressed delight for the visit told the team that the church was building eighty-three (83) housing units with support from a group in Germany.
The housing units will include a school, health clinic, church and a mosque to resettle the displaced persons along Yola-Song road”.
The church has been involved in taking care of the IDP since the insurgency attacks started in the North East in collaborating with various non-Governmental organizations answers open for partnership with the United Nations”. He added.
Mamza thanked Governor Umaru Fintiri for allocating land to the Church to contribute to resettling the displaced persons.
