In a build-up to 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, posters of some serving Governors in the North have started manifesting indicating their interest to vie for the exalted position in the area. The latest is that of Kogi state Governor Yahaya Bello whose posters for the President were seen around strategic locations in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Last week, Governor El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state dismissed the insinuations that he will vie for the presidency in 2023 in reaction to widely speculated rumours on the political ambition of the Governor.

Posters of Governor Yahaya with inscription “2023 Yahaya Bello for Generational Change, Yahaya Bello for President” werw pasted on Thursday morning at Mai Doki roundabout, Fire Service roundabout, Numan-Yola Road, especially around the section of the road at the International Airport, Yola; as well as PZ Junction, Mubi Roundabout, Target Junction, and some other such strategic parts of the Yola metropolis.

Some residents react to the development saying only time will tell, since no political party was attached to the poster.

Abdullahi Usman, a resident of Damilu, a community around which Yahaya Bello’s posters are particularly prominent said “Let’s see if he gets to be president and what difference he may make as a young man”.

Another resident of State Low Cost, Mustapha Raji said the publicity stuff is all politics.

“I think the guy (Yahaya Bello) is fronting for someone. We will see how things go,” Raji said.

However, one of those carrying out the pasting of the posters Aliyu Makama said he will work for Governor Yahaya Bello because the youth need to be given a chance to rule this country.

He said they will soon tour the twenty-one local governments in the state to sell the agenda of the aspirant on the need for people to give young men a chance to be leaders today not leaders of tomorrow.

“Since we were born, we have grown up to see, know that the same person we grow to see in power is still the same as the people circulating the system. If there is any change at all is to bring their children on board to govern us.

“For how long can we continue this bad governance attitude? We must begin to do something to change the bad system, this is why Yaya is one of the young governors that we feel is better than anyone that will be nursing an ambition to be Governor if is above fifty-five years old.

‘Yahaya is an agenda for Youth, that’s why this project is a courtesy of Nigerian Youth awareness group 2023.” Makama said
