KADUNA — A group, Nigeria Youth Compact on COVID-19 (NYCC-19) says, no fewer than 187,848 persons across the 23 local Government areas in Kaduna state needed urgent intervention due to the negative impact of the Corona Virus.
Gambo Haruna, National Coordinator, NYCC-19 made the remarks during the International Youth Conference with the theme: ” Voices Of Nigerian Youth on COVID-19″ on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Haruna said, young people, especially the vulnerable groups, posed a considerable risk in the fields of education, employment, and mental health, occasioned by loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He emphasized that 60 per cent of the Nigerian population under the age of 35, constituting highly mobile demography, that defines the nation’s workforce had been put at risk by the pandemic.
The national coordinator also said that the NYCC-19 had earlier embarked on nationwide data collection of youth whose businesses and means of livelihood were affected by the pandemic.
He said the data showed that 187,848 persons across the 23 local governments of Kaduna state were in need of various forms of interventions due to the effects of the pandemic.
He urged NIRSAL microfinance bank, a subsidiary of the CBN to expedite action in the loan disbursement, especially to real persons affected and deserving, “not those highly connected and comfortable.”
He commended the Kaduna state chapter of NYCC-19 for its commitment in delivering the vision of the compact across the state.
“Kaduna state has shown exceptional leadership amongst other states and I am proud of you all,” Haruna said
