AgricultureEconomyNewsFederal Government Trains Groundnut Farmers On Modern Techniques

The Federal Government has trained farmers on modern techniques of groundnut farming to make the crop serve as an alternative source to oil export.

Yusuf Isma’il Idris, NEPC Adviser in Gusau, who revealed this at a one-day workshop for groundnut farmers held in Maru local government of Zamfara state, said the move is to ensure that Nigerian crops meet international standards.

Idris also said the Federal government had earmarked one farm product per state across 36 states of Nigeria to ensure uniformity in farm production and value chain development for export.

He added that the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) says the Federal Economic Executive Council has selected and approved a seedling sample of groundnut to be planted by farmers across the 36 states in the country.

NEPC Adviser assured that the government was committed to boosting agricultural production as an alternative source of revenue to the national purse.
