The normalcy witnessed in Coal City, Enugu on the first day of Simon Ekpa’s sit-@-home order in Enugu encouraged residents to go about their daily activities without fear on the second day.

Sadly, tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday as 2 persons were murdered and a police van burnt in the New Market area in Enugu North Local Government Area; also there were heavy shootings at strategic areas in the Coal city to cower people into forced compliance to the sit at home order.

Despite these horrendous acts of shedding blood in no war time and the shootings, people were seen going about their daily activities.

Although traffic was not heavy like on normal days about 70% of street business premises were open to business and the popular Ogbete market was in full business.

The effect of the dastard act was noticed only around New Market which was the area of the first hit with cases of loss of lives and property; in other areas like Abakpa and Gariki in Enugu, there were heavy shootings into the air to scare residents into compliance.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani has reassured residents that the situation is in control now as the Command is collaborating with other security agencies to protect the lives and properties of the masses.

“The Command, collaborating with other security agencies and law-abiding citizens, will never rest on its oars in ensuring that the lives and property of the citizenry are protected against the undesirable activities of disgruntled and misguided criminal elements, hell-bent on causing unwarranted havoc to selves and fellow citizens,” CP said.

The Commissioner further assures residents that a crack team of police operatives has been deployed to hunt down the perpetrators of the gross wickedness against humanity.

“To this end, the good people of the State have been called upon to remain law-abiding, and security conscious and promptly report criminal suspects and their activities to the nearest Police Station or call the Command’s emergency hotlines on 08032003702.”
