NewsNigeriaPublic Holidays for Nigerians in 2023

It’s a new year and to mark the celebration of the New Year’s day, the federal government declared Monday, 2 January 2023 as a public holiday.

This means that full activities for the year will resume on Tuesday, 3 January 2023. However, the New Year holiday is just one out of the 11 public holidays Nigerians will enjoy in 2023. We are sharing the list of public holidays in 2023 to help you plan your calendar accordingly.

  • Sunday, 1 January – New Year’s Day
  • Monday, 2 January – New Year’s Day Holiday (because New Year’s Day fell on Sunday)
  • Friday, 7 April – Good Friday
  • Monday, 10 April – Easter Monday
  • Saturday, 22 April – Sunday, 23 April – Id el Fitr
  • Monday, 1 May – Labour/Workers’ Day
  • Monday, 12 June – Democracy Day
  • Thursday, 29 June – Friday, 30 June – Id el Kabir
  • Wednesday, 27 September – Id el Maulud
  • Sunday, 1 October – National/Independence Day
  • Monday, 2 October – National/Independence Day holiday (because Independence Day falls on Sunday)
  • Monday, 25 December – Christmas Day
  • Tuesday, 26 December – Boxing Day
