NewsNigeriaPoliticsWatch Video of Obi’s Running Mate, Baba-Ahmed in Tears During TV Interview

The Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed broke down in tears during a town hall meeting organised by Channels TV on Sunday.

Baba-Ahmed, who was on air alongside Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party, revealed that he and his family have been under constant attack by political opponents since he joined the presidential race.

He said the attacks started when he made efforts to stop those who were dishing out false narratives about Peter Obi for being brave enough to step forward to rescue Nigeria, adding that he became the object of the same attacks he was trying to shield Obi from.

“When I joined the ticket, I impeached certain lies against him and I saw they were heading towards that. Particularly my good friend on the APC side, on the same level,” Baba-Ahmed said.

“They’ve stopped. However, I and my family have been paying a huge price for my attempts to rescue Nigeria. They sent all sorts of people after me.

“I would have been a lot happier if only they stopped at me as an individual. But the thing that I was able to sort [out] with the [opposing] presidential and vice presidential candidate, I ended up suffering on a much lesser level.

“Thirty-five years ago, at least, our dad of blessed memory passed away. No one ever insulted him until I joined the elections for the presidency. This is not fair. It doesn’t happen anywhere in the world.”

He added, “You don’t insult people’s parents or their families. It’s a huge price for anyone to pay” and excused himself to step out of the hall, presumably to regain his composure and soon returned to his seat to carry on with discussions of his and his principal’s plans for Nigeria.
