Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State says he would appeal the judgment which annulled the 16 July 2022 election that brought him to power.
The election petitions tribunal hearing the All Progressives Congress’ Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition against the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Adeleke, on Friday, nullified the result of the 16 July Osun governorship poll.
The Justice Tetse Kume-led panel in its judgement alleged overvoting during the election and declared that Oyetola won the election, having polled 314, 921 votes while Adeleke’s score reduced to 290,266.
He, therefore, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Adeleke’s certificate of return and issue another one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun State.
Taking to Twitter, Adeleke disclosed his plans to appeal the matter, assuring that victory will be his in the end.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on our people to remain calm,” his tweet reads.
“We will appeal the judgment and we are sure justice will be done. Let everyone be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate. God bless Osun!”
