The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso has lost not fewer than four of his supporters assassinated by yet to be identified thugs along Kano /Zaria road on Thursday.
It was reported that the supporters were on their way to Kwana Dangora 110km south of Kano to receive their presidential candidate when they ran into a ring of ambush.
The tragedy led to the death of four of his supporters, while six vehicles were burnt as the security agents who rose tall over the ugly incident arrested 63 thugs with dangerous weapons.
Confirming the bloodshed, the Public Relations Officer of the National Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) in Kano, DSC Ibrahim Abdullahi said “We have arrested about 63 suspected thugs disrupting public peace, wielding dangerous weapons, burning vehicles and snatching handsets from people.
A press statement made available to journalists by the NCDC, reads, “We have arrested about 63 suspected thugs disrupting public peace, wielding dangerous weapons, burning vehicles and snatching handsets from people.”
“They are going to be investigated and taken to court for prosecution”
Meanwhile, uneasy calm was noticed in the ancient city of Kano on Thursday following the insistence of the three dominant political parties in the state to hold their final presidential and National Assembly rallies.
The police command in Kano had earlier advised political parties in the state to suspend all political rallies on Thursday to avoid violent clashes after efforts to reach an agreement failed.
