Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has thrown his weight behind the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, ahead of March 18 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The former lawmaker, who is a member of the PDP Board of Trustee (BoT), who contested the 2023 presidential primary election of the PDP, disclosed this during a town hall meeting with people and stakeholders of Ishiagu at his compound in Ishiagu on Wednesday.
The town hall meeting was convened at the instance of Governor David Umahi who had been touring the Local government Areas (LGAs) to rally support for the APC ahead of the elections.
While speaking to journalists that he was in support of power rotation in Ebonyi State, Anyim noted that it was the turn of the North zone to produce the next Governor and that he had thrown his weight behind the APC governorship candidate, Mr Nwifuru.
“I believe in power rotation and I’m in support of power returning to Ebonyi North zone and the candidate is the APC governorship candidate,” Anyim said.
The former Senate President, while urging the people to vote for Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru noted that a vote for the APC candidate would represent a mark of gratitude to the people of Ebonyi North for their gesture in 2015
Speaking at the event, Governor David Nweze Umahi pledged to complete the ongoing construction of the Ishiagu water project before the end of his administration.
The Governor said the water scheme would ensure that water scarcity in the area would become a thing of the past.
He called on the people to vote for APC in the Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections for continuity of good governance in the State.
“Your Excellency, let me thank you very much for your stand for equity, justice and fairness. When it was the turn of the South, you spearheaded the struggle and today across the Country people are applauding the performance of the Governor from the South.”
Governor Umahi said his insistence on equity, justice and fairness was to secure a seamless power rotation across the Zones in the State.
“Ishiagu and Akaeze are my homes, I want to thank you that all the political parties came together to support Nwifuru.
“Here is my home, so you will honour me totally. If you honour me totally, I will honour you totally.
“I am working on your water project and I am determined to finish it before I leave office.”
The chairman of Ivo LGA, Chief Emmanuel Aja, and Commissioner for Information, Chief Uchenna Orji and Eze Moses Ngene pledged to work assiduously to deliver all Candidates of APC in the Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections.
The member representing Ohanivo Federal Constituency, Chief Livinus Makwe was also present at the town hall meeting.
