NewsNigeriaPoliticsDrama in Adamawa State Governorship Election

Nigeria took a dramatic turn on Sunday, April 16, 2023, when the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State Barr. Yunusa Hudu Ari declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani as Governor-elect.

The REC declared the results amidst tight security in the presence of the Commissioner of Police in the state, the Director of DSS in the state, and the State Commandant of the NSCDC.

While supporters of APC are jubilating for the victory, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC headquarters in Abuja in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner, of Information and Voter Education voided the declaration.

It also said the REC usurped the power of the Returning Officer and therefore suspended the process and summoned the REC to Abuja.

Sen. Binani while addressing supporters and well-wishers before INEC voided the declaration that promised to run an all-encompassing government.

In his reaction in a statewide broadcast, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on citizens to remain calm, peaceful, and resilient.

The Governor described the illegal announcement of Aishatu Binani of All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Resident Electoral Commissioner Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari as provocative and noted that since the beginning of the election, the REC is bent on pushing the collective patience of the people to its limit.
