The overpricing of power bills by Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has provoked some residents of Yola, the Adamawa state capital who trooped to the YEDC operations office in Jimeta on Tuesday to protest the poor power supply and exorbitant bills.
Malam Yahaya Abubakar who led the protests explained that N30,000 being paid monthly for a single phase is unrealistic compared to units consumed within the period due to unstable power supply.
According to him, during the just concluded Ed-el-fitr celebration, the residents celebrated the occasion in darkness and were supplied with power only once within the week.
Security agencies have blocked the entrance of the building to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
YEDC is yet to respond to the protest as none of the staff of the company attend to the protesters.
