To avoid a leadership vacuum in the North East Development Commission, (NEDC), President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate resumption of the New Governing Council of the Commission in an acting capacity pending Senate confirmation.

A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Dr Sani Nasir-Gwarzo, also said President Buhari has approved the immediate resumption of the new Managing Director and CEO of North East Development Commission (NEDC), Umar Abubakar Hashidu in Acting Capacity pending confirmation by the Senate.

The directive followed the expiration of the tenure of the former board members and the MD of the Commission on May 7, 2023.

Based on the directive by the President, Barrister Bukar Baale will take over as the Acting Chairman alongside 10 other members of the Governing board.
