The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah invites stakeholders to a town-hall meeting to chart the way forward in ending the Monday sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, all over the 5 states of the South East geographical region of the Nigeria which includes Enugu state.
In a public service announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the meeting scheduled to hold by 10:30am on Saturday 10th June 2023 at the Banquet Hall, Old Government Lodge, Abakaliki Road GRA, is a follow-up to the state government’s consultations with various groups.
Stakeholders invited are religious leaders, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Leaders of Civil Society Organizations, Transport Union leaders, Heads of Banks and Other Financial Institutions, Heads of Security and Intelligence Agencies, State Leaders of Neighborhood Watch/Forest Guard.
Others are Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of Tertiary Institutions, Leaders of Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) & All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Heads of Radio/Television and other media organizations
Students Union Leaders in tertiary institutions, Leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Tricycle Riders Association; Leaders of Non-indigene Groups (Hausa, Yoruba, etc.) and Presidents and Secretaries General of Motor Parks in the state are invited.
Others include Leaders of Association of Enugu State Town Unions, Chairmen of Inter-Party Advisory Council/Conference of Political Parties, Market Union Leaders, Executive Members of Hotel Owners Association, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) State Leaders
Recall that the Enugu State Government cancelled the sit-at-home order effective from Monday 5th June, 2023 but level of compliance to her counter order was infinitesimal as residents feared for their lives.
In time past, many who defied the order had lost their lives and properties thus instilling fear in the hearts of residents despite security agencies assurances of adequate coverage of the nooks and crannies of the state to maintain law, order to preserve lives and properties.
