Femi Gbajabiamila, the immediate past speaker of the House of Representatives, has resigned as a lawmaker to assume his duty as the chief of the staff to President Bola Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila tendered his letter of resignation yesterday and it was read by the newly-elected Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, before the members of the House during plenary.
Gbajabiamila was re-elected to represent Surulere 1 federal constituency in the green chamber during the 2023 general election.
He was, however, appointed as the chief of staff to the President on June 2, 2023.
Following Gbajabiamila’s resignation, the Surulere 1 federal constituency seat is vacant and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to conduct a bye-election to get a new representative for the constituency.
