The chairman southwest zone of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, (IPMAN) Dele Tajudeen has denied rumours that the association is planning to increase the pump price of petrol, to N700 per litre.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan, Tajudeen said the price of petrol would not exceed its current rate, and commended the removal of the subsidy on petrol.

“The subsidy was nothing more than a fraudulent scam. There is no way petrol prices will exceed the current selling price.

“There is no way the price can go to N700 as we speak because even if the FX is N700 or N800, this cannot take the price of petroleum from N500 to N700,” he said.

IPMAN Chairman explained that the price differential was due to transportation as it is related to location, as the product had been deregulated.
