The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi has started mobilising the public for special prayers for rain, known as “Salatul Istisqa’a”.
The special prayers is to seek God divine intervention over imminent drought due to lack of steady rainfall.
A statement signed by the Shehu of Borno’s Private Secretary, Malam Zannah-Umar Ali, urged Muslims to troop out irrespective of age, gender and status for the special prayer on Monday at Ramat Square Maiduguri for the prayer.
Reports indicates that many farmers in Maiduguri metropolitan, Jere, Konduga, Kaga and Mafa Local Government Areas are mostly affected with the development and sought for prayers.
One of the farmers Mallam Ibrahim Ali lamented that if the situation continues, there might be drought.
“If things continue this way there will be drought, you will see cloud as if it’s going to rain, but after some time there would be strong wind pushing the clouds to another place and that’s the end,” Ali said.
