To end the perennial herders-farmers dispute, the Kwara state government will partner with the federal government in its $ 59 million agro-processing project.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye disclosed this at the 37th Media Parliament of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin, said the agro-processing project would be funded by the Islamic Development Bank to redesign and refocus the cattle business.
“The initiative will instantly increase cattle milk production, improve their health, and end the practice of herders moving from one community to another with attendant clashes between them and farmers, on the one hand, and on the other hand, farmers and local landholders,” he said.
Ajakaye explained that the emphasis would be on improving the living standards of the herders through providing animal feeds, water, schools for their children, healthcare, and modest dwellings, among others.
