For peace and development to thrive in Abia and Akwa Ibom states, the National Boundary Commission (NBC) has promised to speed up the resolution of the interstate boundary dispute between the two states.
Adamu Adaji, Director-General of the NBC disclosed this during an official joint meeting on Abia/Akwa Ibom interstate boundary held in Abuja.
“The meeting was designed to review the status of work on the boundary between the two neighboring states and to deliberate on how to achieve the completion of outstanding work on the boundary between them”.
“The resolutions adopted by previous governments in demarcating the affected boundary area had little or no result,” he said.
Adaji stated that the two states should support the Commission in ensuring a lasting solution to the interstate boundary dispute between them.
In a remark, Abia State Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu appealed to the commission to ensure justice in the implementation of the agreement and work plan reached at the meeting for quick resolution of their boundary dispute.
Also, the Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakanyi assured the Commission of his government’s readiness to support the demarcation for lasting peace as key components of one Nigeria, based on the common history and traditions shared by the two states.
