The vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi has appointed Dr Rose Ugbe as the acting dean of the faculty of law following the suspension of Prof. Cyril Ndifon.
The appointment was made on Tuesday and took effect the same day, according to a statement from the university’s registrar, Gabriel Egbe.
Egbe said the acting dean will take up the duties and responsibilities of the office and oversee the faculty’s academic programs.
Other responsibilities include the promotion of a “positive working relationship between faculty and students, creating an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning; supporting faculty members in their research activities; and collaborating with the University administration to implement and actualise the institution’s vision.”
Ugbe’s administration will run until a substantive dean is elected.
Prof. Ndifon was suspended last week over allegations of sexual harassment and high-handedness. His suspension is pending the resolution of the committee set up by the school authorities to investigate the matter.
