…Says FG won’t compromise on standards
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday directed all contractors in the nation’s capital to return to site.
He assured that the Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud and himself will map out a strategy to fund contractors and ensure they go back to site.
The former Rivers State governor said this during a meeting with contractors handling projects in the nation’s capital, stressing that he is ready to unveil an immediate plan to kick start key projects across the territory.
He said, “The major problem we have in this country is lack of supervision. We are not going to compromise standards, we are going to monitor the projects.
“The road network is very key. We are trying to see how we can map out a strategy to fund the contractors. We are determined to ensure all contractors go back to site.
While referencing key projects, like the Abuja Metro Rail Line and road infrastructures in Garki 1, Wuse 1 and some parts of Maitama, Wike explained that lack of supervision has been a bane to achieving infrastructure development.
The minister, however, assured that increasing project funding is critical and diversifying resource funds is a strategy the administration is adopting to avoid owing contractors which has resulted in some abandoned projects.
“We talk about the short term, medium term and the long term deliverables will be given adequate consideration, in order to ensure the nation’s capital wears a new face-lift,” Wike said.
