Police in Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State, have said that ten suspects are currently being interrogated over the murder of one Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student of government-owned tertiary institution Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE.

The police raid came after the school’s registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, put out a public notice on Thursday morning stating that Deborah’s corpse had been found after the student was declared missing on September 5.

According to multiple reports, Deborah’s body was found with her eyes missing – suggesting a case of kidnapping for ritual-related motives.

A statement by the police public relations officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, said Deborah’s body was found in a shallow grave at a distance of about 30 meters behind the Department of Nursing’s lecture hall.

“While appealing to everyone to be calm, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare vows that the command will do everything possible to unearth the identity of the perpetrator(s) and ensure they are made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement noted.

The school authorities confirmed the arrests, saying that “several arrests have been made of suspects”.

Students were directed to vacate the campus with immediate effect “to ensure a proper, holistic, and unimpeded thorough investigation” as “a new resumption date for all students would be conveyed accordingly.”

The management of FUOYE also sent their condolences to the “deceased family and the generality of the University community, particularly our dear students.”
