NewsNigeriaPoliticsChief Maja Umeh Installed as a Life Patron of APGA

Chief Maja Umeh, former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, and former Board of Trustee member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA, has been recognized as a life patron of APGA, Anambra State. This recognition was conveyed by the Anambra state chairman of APGA, Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, in company of the party’s state secretary, Sir Levi Obiadua and the State woman leader, Lady Esther Onyekesi, at the residence of Chief Umeh, who also marked his birthday on the same Saturday evening.

During the visit, Chief Maja Umeh in his opening remarks said that Barr. Obi-Okoye is an experienced party man, which is to the advantage of the party. “The party will leverage your wealth of experience. You are showing solidarity with members of APGA and you have my support”, Umeh said.

Speaking about the reason for his visit, Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye said that he had come with his team to pay homage to Chief Umeh as a leader in APGA. “I am here in a dual capacity; to celebrate you. But before then, in keeping with the trend of the current executive of APGA in Anambra State; we are going round reaching out to the leaders of APGA. The party as it was before must be owned by relevant political stakeholders, area by area. Igbos have kings, and those who understand the structure in Igbo land know this,” Barr. Obi-Okoye said. Commending Chief Umeh’s dedication to APGA, Obi-Okoye remarked that Chief Maja has served APGA meritoriously. “We acknowledge that you have served this party in many capacities, people like you who served as BOT members should be life BOT members. We want to begin to remember people like you who have paid their dues. We must sustain the values with which APGA was started. So, the people who have been part of the growth and expansion of APGA, we must bring them back, emotionally. Today that you are celebrating your birthday, God has ordained it that we must come and recognize you. We are bringing everybody back,” Obi-Okoye concluded. This was then followed by the presentation of a certificate of life patron of APGA Anambra state, to Chief Maja Umeh, by Barr. Obi-Okoye.

Reacting, Chief Maja Umeh expressed his happiness over what the APGA state chairman is doing to bring people’s emotional attachment to APGA back.”With what you are presently doing, I want to say that you are on the right track. Politics is about emotions,” Umeh averred. He also regretted and described as an “abomination” a situation where candidates of APGA are imposed in his backyard, without his knowledge whatsoever. More so, Chief Umeh appealed to the state chairman of APGA and his team, for similar visit to be paid on Chief Akai Egwuonwu also from his constituency of Nnewi South local government area. Chief Egwuonwu, Chief Umeh said, has equally been neglected in APGA, despite the fact that Chief Akai is the financier of APGA in his constituency. He further asked to be part of the delegation to Chief Akai Egwuonwu’s home.

Shortly after this meeting, friends, family, and associates trouped en masse to Chief Maja’s residence in Awka, to felicitate with him on his birthday. Many officials of government, businessmen, and professionals of various fields were all in Chief Umeh’s house to celebrate his day with him, which speaks to Chief Maja Umeh’s quality service to APGA, Anambra state government and his loyalty to family, friends, and neighbours.
