…ministers to sign performance pact
President Bola Tinubu has said that he would not hesitate to fire any member of his cabinet over incompetence.
“We can’t complain and give excuses,” Tinubu said at a retreat for ministers, presidential aides and other top government officials in Abuja, on Wednesday.
The President reminded the ministers of their responsibility to serve the people who entrusted their mandate to him.
“We have to give hope to the near hopeless, to the Nigerians in doubt whether our economic policies are the right way to success,” he noted.
To ensure that the appointees perform optimally, Tinubu’s government established a Result Delivery Unit to closely monitor the performance of ministers in their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
The result would be the only basis on which ministers and other top government functionaries would be able to retain or vacate their seats.
“If you are performing, there is nothing to fear. If you miss the objective, we’ll review it. If no performance, you leave us,” the President said.
The unit will be headed by Hadiza Bala Usman, a former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
