Some members of the Kogi State Butchers Development Association have been suspended over alleged cattle rustling and other anti-union activities.
Idi Ibrahim, chairman of the association who announced the suspension while addressing journalists in Lokoja on Monday stated that a meeting was held where the organization adopted a resolution to suspend one Dodun Akuya and others who allegedly rustled three cows belonging to Fulanis.
“On no account would the union allow beef or rustled cattle to be sold in the market, and the association is ready to deal decisively with any erring member.
“Immediately we got the information we set a committee which investigated whether any of our members were involved in the alleged cattle rustling and sale of beef rustled cows to our customers and to also ascertain whether any of our members is involved directly or otherwise in aiding the sale of such beef to innocent customers.
“At the end of the committee investigation, it was revealed that some members were involved and immediately we suspended them indefinitely,” he said.
Ibrahim assured residents of the union’s commitment and determination to ensure the safety and availability of healthy beef in the market.
