Troops of the Nigerian Army, NA, codenamed “Exercise Golden Dawn III” cracked the bunker of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, insurgents and its militant wing the Eastern Security Network, ESN, in the Orsumoghu area of Anambra State on Monday.
In a statement on its X page on Tuesday, the Nigerian Army said the operation led to the death of one IPOB/ESN fighter. Other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds and no arrest was made. One pump action rifle was recovered.
Earlier on Saturday, 9 December, there was a face-off between the Nigerian troop and a group of insurgents.
“However, due to superior firepower the criminals were forced to abandon their location,” the NA’s social media post said.
The NA recovered 27 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, three locally-made hand grenades, two handheld radios, a pair of Nigeria Police Force uniform and fragmental jacket, and charms.
