The Yobe State University has held a 2-Day workshop on the significance of study and review of manuscripts.

The Chancellor of Yobe State University, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura declared the programme open with the theme: “Training of Postgraduate Students How to Handle the indigenous Manuscripts” at Good Luck Ebele Jonathan Library of the University.

Daura highlighted the need for the students to concentrate on what the resource persons will put them through.

He commended the efforts of Head of Manuscripts and Digital Documentation (MDD) Unit, Dr. Maimadu Barma Mutai, and Director, Centre for Research in Qur’anic Studies of Yobe State University, Dr. Adam Mohammed Mustapha Jatkawy for organising the workshop, stressing that it’s timely.

Earlier in his address, the Director, Centre for Research in Qur’anic Studies of Yobe State University, Dr. Adam Mohammed Mustapha Jatkawy represented at the occasion, said the objective of the workshop is to understand the meaning and value of Manuscripts (MSS), and their collection; to know how to make MSS conservation, digitization, cataloguing and preservation as well as to provide access for research and analyses of all available MSS.

He added that the targeted participants of the workshop are Postgraduate Students of the University.

Dr. Jatkawy while commending the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daura, also lauded the efforts of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni for supporting the centre financially.

The papers presented include; Brief History and Types of Manuscripts by Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Bere; Importance of MS Studies for PG Students by Dr. Maimadu Barma Mutai; The Perspective of Education and History Studies on MSS Studies by Dr. Yusuf Kalli Alkali Gazali and The Perspective of Arabic and Islamic Studies on MSS Studies by Prof. Moussa Oumar Keita.

Others are; cataloging of Manuscripts Materials by Dr. Amina Ibrahim Makintami, Major Conditions of the Study of MSS by Dr. Adam Muhammad Mustapha Jatkawy and Editing and Analyses of MSS at PG Level by Dr. Ali Goni Idris.
